Cheri Harris

I am an Indianapolis attorney. My husband and I were married in 1994, in a secular service we wrote ourselves. I officiated a marriage for the first time in 1999, and found it to be one of the most enjoyable activities of my adult life.

One of the things I really enjoy about officiating weddings is that I get to know thoughtful couples at a very exciting time in their lives. I have warm feelings toward all of the couples I have worked with.

Early in my career I worked for the ACLU of Indiana and I continue to believe firmly in the separation of church and state.

My parents died in 2008 and 2009, so I also have personal experience navigating the path to finding successful and appropriate ways to honor and memorialize loved ones in a secular fashion.

I believe your creative choices and expressions unique to you are important components of memorable rituals. I earned my undergraduate degree in Political Science from the George Washington University in Washington D.C. I also have a Master of Science degree from the London School of Economics, and obtained my J.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington.

I live in Indianapolis. I am happy to officiate in other locations but will generally need to charge an additional fee for my travel expenses for events located outside of Marion County.
